After working in public practice for 12 years and completing his Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University, Lionel first became a partner of an accounting practice at the age of 33. He started his own practice in 2006 out of desire to "do things better". Twelve years on and the business is firmly established in Te Kuiti.
Lionel's interests include fishing, rugby and watching his children play sport.

Shelley joined Lionel in February 2008 after completing her Bachelor of Management Studies. She has over 14 years experience in public practice and prior to this she was employed in local government. She became partner in April 2018, Hence the name "Smith Mitchell Limited".
Aside from work Shelley has had a very successful sporting career having played both representative netball and basketball.

Accounting Technician
Holly is our wonderful accounting technician who started with the firm in April 2009. She has 13 years experience working in a chartered accountants office. She has recently finished her professional exams and successfully gained her membership to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as a fully qualified Accounting Technician.
Outside of work Holly loves to get away to the family bach in Mokau and enjoys winding down with her family.

Chartered Accountant
Harpreet, affectionately known as "Happie", joined our team in May 2015 after completing his diploma in accounting. Later, he completed his Bachelor of Applied Management degree in 2017, earned his professional chartered accounting qualification in 2022 and was admitted as a full CA member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
Hailing from a small town in the agricultural state of Punjab, India, Happie moved to NZ as a 19-year-old student. Technology is a strong point for Happie and he enjoys helping staff with various IT issues. He is a keen follower of cricket and has played a few games for the local club Waitete. Whenever the Blackcaps face India, he is a torn man.
Assistant Accountant
Matt is our Assistant Accountant and will be helping us to prepare GST returns, annual accounts and other general accounting responsibilities. He has lived in Te Kuiti all his life and comes to us with billing and invoicing experience from The Lines Company.
Matt and his wife Jane have recently become new parents to baby Beau. In what spare time he has left, he enjoys playing cricket, travel and watching sport
